Osteopathic Manual Therapy Traditional Osteopathic manual therapy focuses on restoring functional movement to any part of the body, including the extremities, cranium and organs, in order to allow the natural process of healing to take place more effectively. Many different techniques are used in this form of therapy. Some are gentle, slow manipulations aimed at releasing the soft tissues, ligaments, muscles, and fascia (connective tissues). Others are more direct, aimed at the muscles or tissues surrounding the joints, or the joints themselves. In typical treatment practitioners use their assessment and palpation skills to seek out areas of the body that are restricted (not moving normally) or constricted (strangled or squeezed). The philosophy behind this type of treatment is to identify the major restricted or constricted areas, then gently mobilize the tissues so the body can regain normal/optimal function. Our Osteopathic Manual Therapist is available to take bookings on Fridays. Massage Therapy Massage Therapy is the practice of soft tissue manipulation with physical, functional, and in some cases, psychological purposes and goals. Massage involves acting on and manipulating the client's body with pressure (structured, unstructured, stationary, and/or moving). Acupuncture What is Acupuncture? Acupuncture originated in China over 2000 years ago and is just one form of therapy used within Traditional Chinese Medicine (TCM). Acupuncture is based on traditional Chinese philosophy and developed through careful observation of the body in disease and health. Acupuncture is deeply relaxing and enjoyed by most patients. One of the main fears that people have with Acupuncture is that it will be painful. This is not necessarily true; in most cases sensations caused by the needles include pressure, distension, tingling, and warmth. It feels completely different to what most people would expect! Top Reasons to Try Acupuncture: 1. It treats the root of the problem not just the symptoms. 3. Acupuncture awakens the body's potential to heal itself. It also helps support and strengthen the immune system and boost energy levels. |
